To the west of Lake Garda extends the dam of Valvestino, the well-known artificial lake at 124 meters high. With 283 meters in length, the lake is at the heart of the western natural reserve of the Alto Garda Bresciano Park. Due to the many high cliffs, it remembers a Norwegian fjord compared to a northern Italian mountain lake. It's interesting not only for nature lovers, but also for those who like to travel by motorbike or by cycling.
The completion of the dam of Valvestino took place in 1962, with the barrier of the lake. Visitors can now admire the past thanks to the ruins of its membership of the Austro-Hungarian empire. The Valvestino dam can containe 52 million cubic meters of water. Neighboring communities are supplied with an annual output of 137 megawatts of electricity. This corresponds to about 30,000 households in the area. The dam lies in a deep valley, which is equivalent to a gorge and includes some isolated caves and bays.
Mass tourism for Valvestino is almost an unknown word. Visitors who prefer peace, quiet, nature and excursions will fall in love with the Valvestino dam. There are no tourist activities on the Valvestine dam.
